Since I picked up my first baseball mitt at age four I knew that baseball was a game I would love. Even though it was teeball I felt so proud to be wearing a uniform and be part of a team. Over the years I have played for many teams and feel so lucky to be part of a whole baseball community. I know that my future does not include major league baseball but I want to do something that has an impact on the game long after I pursue a career and other interests. David Ogden is a University of Nebraska at Omaha researcher who focuses on youth baseball.  In a 15-year study of 10,000 youth baseball players, Ogden discovered that baseball attracts a more affluent, suburban and white base than it did in the past.  The high cost limits opportunities for lower-income families, and the escalating level of play leaves more broad-based organizations such as Little League and YMCA teams with “a lot of kids who can’t get the ball over the plate, so the game is less fun and kids drop out,” Ogden says.

This past year I was shocked by the violent riots in Baltimore which is only about 30 miles from my home. This is a city plagued with economic inequality.  There are the 'haves' and 'have nots' and a very small population in between. Many youth in Baltimore deserve better. They would benefit from activities such as baseball. From that moment I decided that I would act.... I would do something to help.  I hope you join me by donating today!

Sincerely,

Ben Rosenblatt
